About The U.P.L.I.F.T. Program:
United Way of Steele County is empowering young minds to reach their full potential. Through a partnership with other agencies in Steele County, we created a Truancy Intervention Program, where we aim to identify barriers that prevent youth from attending school regularly. Through this program we serve youth 7th-12th grade in the Blooming Prairie, Medford, and Owatonna school districts. This is a voluntary program, meaning the families have the choice of participating.
The UPLIFT (United-Partnership-Leadership-Inspiration-Focus-Transformation) program is designed to help all young people succeed in school and in life. We believe that every student deserves a chance to reach their full potential, so we work with families, school, and the community to make it happen. Youth Support Coordinators (YSC) will walk alongside families to identify and remove barriers, make sure every person feels supported, valued, and motivated to achieve their goals and dreams, which in turn creates a stronger, more vibrant community. The YSC will be there to support and encourage the youth and their family to be successful in their academic career, leading to graduation and beyond.
How We're Making A Difference
United Way prioritizes high-quality out-of-school (OST) programming as a crucial component of our comprehensive approach to preparing every person for success. With the implementation of the Teen Center we are able to also provide social opportunities, recreational activities, team building experiences, and homework support.
