Community Investments Make a Community Impact

For decades, United Way of Steele County has been a steadfast pillar of the community, channeling resources towards initiatives that uplift and enrich the lives of everyone in Steele County. Central to our mission is the annual allocations process, a detailed effort ensuring that partner agencies are held accountable for the invaluable work they undertake to enhance the quality of life for every person in Steele County.

At the core of United Way's principles lies a commitment to transparency and effectiveness. To fulfill this promise, we conduct a thorough allocations process each year, analyzing the impact and efficiency of programs delivered by our partner agencies. This review involves comprehensive assessments of program outcomes, fiscal responsibility, and alignment with our community needs.

The allocations process begins with an invitation for funding applications from local nonprofits that have already been approved as our partner agencies. These applications undergo careful analysis by our Community Investments Advisory Board (CIAB) which is comprised of dedicated volunteers and community leaders. Each proposal is evaluated based on predetermined criteria, including the agency's capacity, past performance, and the potential for definite community impact.

Once the initial review is complete, the applying partner agencies are invited to present their programs in detail before the CIAB. These presentations provide an opportunity for agencies to showcase their achievements, express their objectives, and outline their plans for future impact. Crucially, they also allow for a transparent dialogue where agency representatives can address any questions or concerns raised by the committee members.

Following the presentations, the CIAB conducts a thorough discussion of each agency's proposal, considering factors such as program effectiveness, financial stewardship, and alignment with community need. Through this deliberative process, the committee meticulously recommends allocation amounts to those agencies whose programs demonstrate the greatest potential for positive change in Steele County.

One of the hallmarks of our allocations process is its emphasis on accountability. Partner agencies are not simply recipients of funding; they are stewards of the community entrusted with the task of making a lasting impact. As such, they are held to high standards of accountability and are required to report their progress and outcomes of their funded programs.

Our commitment to transparency and effectiveness is paramount to the mission. We ensure that every dollar granted to our partner agencies is invested wisely, delivering maximum benefit to the residents of Steele County, and fostering a community where everyone can thrive.
